How do you challenge or avoid consumerism? – Positive News

It starts ramping up around Halloween. Then the plastic pumpkins are replaced with Christmas tat and Black Friday deals, which eagle-eyed researchers have proven to be mostly phony. In any case, consumerism feels impossible to ignore at this time of the year as the corporate machine fires up for its big money spinner.

At best, it’s overwhelming. At worst, plain ugly. And it begs a question: how do you choose to take a different tack? (Especially if you have excitable kids clutching lists.)

We want to know your hacks for reclaiming Christmas from big business. Do you rebuff consumerism entirely? Or just the big chains? Do you make all your gifts? Perhaps you camp out in the woods for the whole of December? Whatever you do, let us know by filling out the form below. The best answers will be published in an article later this week.
